The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered Game Director Talks Fan Backlash To The PS5 Release

With the release of The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, Naughty Dog has wrapped up work on the definitive version of what is considered to be one of the best games of all time. Some people have viewed the project as unnecessary, but according to Naughty Dog, this version of the game is ideal for anyone new to the series and looking to experience it in its best form possible. And for those people criticizing it, Naughty Dog doesn’t quite understand why this approach has drawn harsh feedback.

“I don’t understand some of the consternation about what The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered offers, game director Matthew Gallant said in a VGC interview. “It’s the best way to play The Last of Us Part 2, if you’re a new PlayStation owner and new to the franchise we want to get you the best experience with all the hardware features on a PS5 native version of the game. My sense is there’s an audience for this for whom the idea of a PS5 version is thrilling. I’m also speaking for myself, I’m excited we can bring this to the fans, and if it’s not for everyone, that’s fine.”

The overall package is an impressive one, as alongside improved graphics, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered also packs in lost levels, hours of commentary from Naughty Dog developers, a free-play guitar mode, expansive accessibility features, and a fun roguelike mode called No Survivor. All of these improvements on top of the original 2020 game have been well-received, with many critics giving glowing reviews to the complete package.

In terms of pricing, the game is available for $50, or if you already own it, a palatable $10 upgrade. As for Naughty Dog’s next project, the studio won’t be continuing work on a The Last of Us multiplayer game as that game has been canceled so that the studio can focus all of its resources on its next single-player game.
