Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox Bans Over Explicit Clips Are Now Being Reversed

Baldur’s Gate 3 players on Xbox banned for recording clips of some of the game’s more explicit content should soon see their bans lifted, according to developer Larian Studios.

The issue recently came to light after a player posted on Reddit to warn other Xbox users about using the console’s capture tools, in this case video recording, to record scenes involving, as they put it, “naked camp time fun.” The player, Daddy-Vegas, received a ban for all three of their recorded clips, resulting in a ban of over a year total. Larian caught word of the bans and said it would work with Microsoft to remedy the situation, with the studio’s director of publishing Michael Douse calling the whole ordeal “annoying and uncool.”

Now, it looks like progress has been made. Douse on X (formerly Twitter) said he received confirmation that bans issued for recording explicit Baldur’s Gate 3 content are being lifted and that discussions with Microsoft are ongoing in regards to its policies. The official Larian X account advised Xbox players in the meantime to turn off mature content before uploading clips of the game.

Baldur’s Gate 3 arrived on Xbox during The Game Awards, where the RPG went home with six awards total, including Game of the Year. While the game’s Xbox launch has been mostly smooth, there have been some hiccups with game saves due to a firmware issue. A fix is currently in the works, according to Larian, but in the interim the developer is advising players to create and link a Larian account with their Xbox profile in order to enable cross-saves. Larian’s servers will automatically upload the last five saves, ensuring players won’t lose their progress.

Larian’s RPG didn’t originally release on Xbox due to the developer being unable to get Baldur’s Gate 3’s split-screen co-op properly working on Xbox Series S consoles. However, the decision was eventually made to not ship the feature on Xbox Series S in order for the game to come to the platform. Larian hasn’t ruled out the possibility that couch co-op could still come to the Xbox Series S version in the future, and couch co-op is included in the Xbox Series X version of Baldur’s Gate 3.
