The high price point of PlayStation’s PS5 Pro has been a hot topic and EA’s Vince Zampella has weighed in, offering a more middle of the road take on the console. Zampella said that he thinks the price is “actually not that bad” when compared to other options, although he recognized that it’s still expensive for many people.
In an interview with IGN discussing the future of Battlefield, including a return to a modern setting, the Head of Respawn and Group GM for EA Studios Organization said–that when adjusted for inflation–the PS5 Pro isn’t priced that much higher than some previous consoles and that it offers better performance than building a PC for the same cost. That said, Zampella recognized that the asking price is higher than many people would like.
“So I mean, it’s a balance. Is it expensive for people? Absolutely. Not everybody will be able to afford it,” Zampella said. “Would it be better if it was cheaper? Sure. I want more people to have it. But it makes sense, really.”
As for what the PS5 Pro means for the next entry in the Battlefield series, Zampella said the team will need to wait and see. He continued on, saying that the overall adoption rate will affect what the team can do. In addition, since the next Battlefield will still have to run on the base PS5, the team will only be looking at what they can “plus up” for PS5 Pro owners.
EA hasn’t announced when fans can expect the next Battlefield game, but the PS5 Pro release is just around the corner. While the $700 price has turned many away, anyone looking to play PS5 games at the best possible quality might still want to pick it up.
